Conversation with Jesus
To please me it is not necessary to know much, but to love much. Speak to me sincerely, from your heart, as you speak to your father, to your brother, or to your closest friends “When you pray, don’t be like the gentiles who think that they will be heard by using many words…because Your Father knows the things that you need before you ask for them.
Do you want to ask me to do something for someone? Tell me who you are thinking about and what good you would want for them. “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, call and it shall be opened to you…Then if you, being evil, know how to give good things to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those that ask Him?” Ask much, very much, because generous hearts please me very much in forgetting about themselves and that are touched by others’ needs. Tell me about the poor whom you want to help, about the sick that you see suffering, about the estranged people that you want to see return to the right path, about all those that still don’t know me, but they know you. I am very interested in all these people.
And for you, don’t you need something? Make a list of your needs if you wish, and come and read it in my presence. Tell me about your weaknesses and failings. Tell me when you have felt the sting of pride, of sensuality, the temptation of ease or of selfishness…and ask me then that I come and help you with those efforts that you make-little or much-to fight against those miseries. Do not be ashamed: there are so many saints in heaven that had those same defects that you have…and they struggled…and they began that fight again many times…and little by little they improved. Do not hesitate to ask for whatever sort of good that you consider the most important for your sanctification. What can I do for your benefit? “There was a blind man seated by the road asking for alms…hearing that Jesus was passing by he started to shout aloud saying: Jesus, son of David, have pity on me…Stopping, Jesus sent for him and when he came near, he asked him: what do you want me to do for you?”
Tell me about your plans. What are you concerned about? What is on your mind? What is it that you want? What things in particular are you concerned about today? What feelings disturb your heart? What things do you long for most intensely? What are your dreams and projects?
Do you perhaps feel sad for some reason? Tell me your sorrows in detail. “Come to me all you who are weary and overburdened and I will give you rest.” Who has hurt you? Who injured your pride? Come close to My Heart, lacerated so many times by men and you will find consolation and a remedy for the wounds that are in yours. Tell me everything and you will see how easy it is to pardon and to do good to others. Are you afraid of some evil? Put yourself in the arms of my providence. I am with you; you have me here at your side. “I will be with you always, until the end of the world.” I know everything and I will never abandon you.
Don’t you have some joy that you can tell me about? Tell me what has consoled you since the last time that we spoke or what has made your heart happy. Maybe you have had pleasant surprises, seen fears dissolve, received some show of affection, overcome difficulties or have gotten out of financial straits…Do you think that I didn’t have anything to do with all that? Why have you been so slow in thanking me for it? Don’t forget that gratitude always brings new blessings, because the benefactor always likes to see himself appreciated. Don’t forget that everything that happens to you, while you are close to me, will be for the good and a reason for giving thanks.
Can we make a resolution? You know very well that our intimacy will deepen in the way in which you try to love me and improve with my help. This is the time for sincerity. Do you have a firm resolution to avoid every occasion of sin? Will you try to be kind to those persons that you will find it hard to deal with? Are you always ready to choose the path of love although it means sacrifice? Will you try to work better? Will you keep me present in all that you do? Will you turn to me always whatever happens? Will we carry on speaking tomorrow? Now return to your usual occupations, to your work…but don’t forget the pleasant conversation that we two have hid here; try to do everything out of love, love my Mother, who is your mother too, and count on my help to behave like a good child.
